The b-agonists currently form the mainstay of bronchodilator therapy in bronchial asthma and interest in these substances has recently been stimulated by a number of factors, including the introduction of agonists with long durations of action. This book reports the proceedings of a meeting held at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Manchester, as a satellite to the annual meeting of the British Pharmacological Society in 1994. Its aim was to consider the actions of b-agonists in lung tissue and clinical experience with the short- and long-acting compounds in this group. The diverse disciplines that were drawn together for this meeting provide a useful overview of how basic science and drug discovery can lead, via clinical trials, to benefit to the patient.   show more
