See! Now he's walking down the aisle, Who can he be, do you suppose? " " Why, that's the train conductor, child, He travels o'er the road each day: How lonely his poor wife must be, And children, too, when he's away." " Now, what's a train conductor, pa ? Does he go always on the train ? Does he conduct the train away, And then conduct it back again ? " " His business is to gather fares, And keep good order on the car: And try and make things pleasant, too, For those who have to travel far." " Who is that handsome lady, pa ? The ticket man just turned her seat. Is that the ticket-puncher's wife ? She's looking at him. pretty sweet."
